Icons

Successful films often have an icon or something the audience will remember the film from; for example Psycho (1960). The shower scene from this film has become so iconic that posters have been made by graphic designers that are so minimal, but manage to relate the film to the audience perfectly.

Psycho

Scream

Titanic

Although the films above are all unrelated to the film I am creating, I feel they work brilliantly as examples of icons. It is difficult to predict exactly what the icon of your film could be, because although it could be the most impacting thing in the film, for example the iceberg in Titanic, depending on how different audiences interpret the film the icon could become a physical feature of one of the main characters, or an accessory or item of clothing of theirs; some examples of this are shown below.

Moonrise Kingdom

The Life Aquatic

This shows how characters, and costumes are equally as important in film creation as an interesting narrative. I feel in Dystopia, the main icon an audience could take from our film would be the thick glasses and the bright red sleeping bag. I feel These two  items summarize the film perfectly and would be recognizable, especially within the target audience.
