I Am Legend poster analysis

I love this poster. To me, it summarises the entire film in one image. The main character, Robert Neville is the main subject of the image, walking towards the camera with his dog. He is looking straight into the camera to show his power and determination, whereas he dog is looking away to show that he is totally reliant on Robert. New York City is shown destroyed in the background. This is a very powerful image, especially to an American audience.
The colours on this poster are interesting. They have not been completely extracted like the posters from the image The Road, nor are they bright and exhilarating like a The Life Aquatic. The poster has been given a warm, Sepia feel, and this to me signifies drought, the complete inability for things to grow and for people to live in New York City any more, this is backed up with the cracked concrete and the dead plants beside him.
The logo for I Am Legend is in the font Trajan Bold. The layout and typography of the logo is designed to look like a pyramid. I feel using the  I completely on its own, and placing it below his feet holds a very strong message.
The font is used again for the actor’s name. Interestingly the actor’s name, Will Smith, is the biggest piece of text on the entire poster. This is because the designer of this poster realise that people will watch the film, regardless of its plot, simply because it features Will Smith as the lead actor, and is therefore the more eye catching thing on the poster.
The slogan ‘The last man on earth is not alone’ is very thought provoking, and very clever. It makes the audience ask both ‘Why was he the last man on Earth?’ and ‘Why is he no longer?’
Designed around a simple centred layout, this poster for I Am Legend uses very minimal design to make a huge impact on the audience, and I would like to design my poster for DYSTOPIA in the same way.
